9th graders are introduced to fieldwork through their Adventure/PE class with Mr. Berry. They learn how to safely light fires when allowed in the wilderness, build shelters, cook, and Leave No Trace. Their class is focused on getting students active while also laying the groundwork for them to become independent outdoor adventurers. Crew Orientation is their first introduction to fieldwork and a way for students to bond with their Crews and take their learning deeper in their Expedition. FieldWORK is clearly differentiated from field trips for students as they are asked to actively engage in the activities and learning in the field. In the spring there is an emphasis on day fieldwork and service learning.
